This unit was established under the Directorate of non-communicable diseases to carry out activities related to prevention and control of tobacco use. The unit is responsible for following activities.

Tobacco Preventive Program

Directorate of Non-communicable disease prevention in collaboration with the other health and Non-Health sector partners leads tobacco prevention and control activities at various settings and community. Establishing tobacco free zones, smoke free zones, mobilize community support to implement National Authority for Tobacco Alcohol Act (NATA) through Community awareness are some of the intitiatives launched at the national level. The unit is also involved in training and capacity building of the relevant staff. “Brief Interventions for tobacco prevention and cessation at primary health care settings” training is initited.

Tobacco cessation counselling services

Tobacco cessation clinics will be established at Healthy Lifestyle Centers (HLC) in health care facilities. The clients will be registered, assessed and brief interventions will be offered along with the other Health promotion activities for a tobacco free life.
