Strategic Information Management (SIM) unit is a subunit functioning within the Directorate of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) that is concerned with information management relevant to non- communicable diseases. Effective information management through the SIM unit enables sharing of information and action-oriented decision-making pertaining to the rising burden of NCD in the country. The SIM unit receives and manages NCD related data at the national as well as the sub national level.

  • Information Management
    • Establish and maintain the Health Management Information System (HMIS),
    • Collation, collection, analysis, interpretation and dissemination of information from the HMIS
    • Establish and maintain the NCD mortality and morbidity in the population in a database by linking with e-IMMR and Registrar General’ Department,
    • Develop performance indicators, monitor their progress regularly through the HMIS, and guide the team as necessary
    • Oversee the quality of HIMS
    • Coordinate with and provide technical guidance to institutions within and outside the Ministry of Health including the Provincial and District health teams in establishing and maintaining an appropriate, high quality information management system and Web based surveillance system.
    • Conduct upskilling of staff /training on surveillance systems.
    • Publication of the quarterly and the annual NCD bulletins and provide information to the Ministry of Health for its publication e.g. Annual Health Bulletin
    • Coordinate the conduct of the periodic surveys as per the national requirements. e.g. STEPS in collaboration with relevant agencies
  • Coordinate research pertaining to NCD for evidence-based decision making
