The Planning and capacity building unit led by a Consultant Community Physician, is involved in the development of midterm and the annual NCD action plans and prioritizing of activities in order to utilize the funds effectively from various sources including donor agencies. The unit identifies providing technical guidance to districts to prepare their midterm multi-sectoral action plans and annual NCD action plans and monitoring of progress in implementation of the activities at district levels as its mandate. Monitoring, evaluation and reporting of progress of the Directorate of NCD to the relevant authorities and funding agencies is also a responsibility of the Planning unit.

Monitoring of implementation of NCD policy directives and the strategic plans with all relevant stakeholders is achieved through a national level coordinating mechanisms. Conduction of the National NCD council, National Steering Committee and the Advisory Board for NCD, with relevant political, Multi sectoral and Health ministry officials is a key role of the planning unit.

The planning unit actively involved in periodic evaluation and revision of the National policy and Strategic framework for NCD prevention & control and National multi-sectoral action plan. The Unit is also responsible for human resource development not only through advocacy for revision of cadre norms and for cadre projections, but also through development of in service training curriculum for health care workers and trainers to organize and conduct training programs based on needs assessments.
